WinSTIPS -- How To Update Your Program Files
Your CD or Web download may not contain the latest build of WinSTIPS. WinSTIPS program updates are always free for all WinSTIPS users. Here is how to update your WinSTIPS program files to the latest version:
  • First, make certain that all copies of WinSTIPS are closed.
  • Then click the Windows START button and choose
    • Programs
    • ServiceSoftware
    • ServiceSoftware Update
  • Follow on screen prompts from there to update your program files.

You can check your WinSTIPS version number by clicking Help | About from the main WinSTIPS menu.

WinSTIPS -- How To Update Your Tips Database (Tip Update)
What You Need To Know
  • An active WinSTIPS Subscription is required.
  • Very fast -- Should take less than 10 minutes even with a dial-up connection
  • Use Tip Update to receive the latest records that have been added in the last two weeks or so
  • You'll receive new records only -- no edits or deletes
  • Run Tip Update at least every two weeks. If you wait longer, then you should CORE UPDATE so you don't miss anything

How To Do This

  • Start WinSTIPS
  • Connect to the Internet
  • Choose Tools and the Update from the main WinSTIPS menu
  • Make sure the box named "Passive File Transfer" is checked.
  • Click the Tip Update button
WinSTIPS -- How To Update Your Tips Database (Core Update)
What You Need To Know
  • An active WinSTIPS Subscription is required.
  • Slower than Tip Update -- May take 20 to 40 minutes with a dial-up connection.
  • Use Core Update to replace your WinSTIPS database with complete and up-to-date database
  • You'll receive all tips, all edits, and all deletions.

How To Do This

  • Start WinSTIPS
  • Connect to the Internet
  • Choose Tools and the Update from the main WinSTIPS menu
  • Make sure the box named "Passive File Transfer" is checked
  • Click the Core Update button

Troubleshooting Update Problems

STEP # 1: Confirm Your Registration / Subscription

Your copy of WinSTIPS must be registered and you must have an active subscription for your serial number.

To view your registration information, click Help and then Register from the main WinSTIPS menu.

To confirm your subscription information, send an email to Support@ServiceSoftware.com with the displayed SERIAL NUMBER,

REGISTRATION NUMBER, and CUSTOMER NUMBER.

STEP # 2: Firewall Settings

Firewall and network settings can prevent your tip update or core update.

First, know that you should check the Passive File Transfer check box on the WinSTIPS Update form.

Second, Windows Firewall or other firewall software can prevent updates. Have you disabled these?

STEP # 3: Tell Us More About Your Problem

If none of the above solves your tip update or core update difficulty, then we'll need more information to assist you.

Please send an email to Support@ServiceSoftware.com with the displayed SERIAL NUMBER, REGISTRATION NUMBER, and CUSTOMER NUMBER.

Include your full contact information, and please tell us - in detail - about the problem.
