How to Submit Tips for Subscriptiopn Credit.

Submit Tips Summary

To enter your own tips into the WinSTIPS database, from the WinSTIPS main menu, choose the menu option for File and then Add Tip. Or when viewing any tip, click the Add Tip button.

After you've entered tips, there are two options for submitting your tips and Option # 2 always works.

  • Option # 1: Send Tips via WinSTIPS.
    After making some initial settings, this feature enables you to submit tips with one click.
  • Option # 2: Export Tips and send via Email Attachment

Option # 1: Send Tips via WinSTIPS.

From the WinSTIPS main menu, choose the menu option for Tools and then Export / Email Tips. This opens the WinSTIPS Export form, shown below.

You are interested in the section named: Send tips to ServiceSoftware via email. Please make the following entries in that form.

  • Email Address: Enter your email address. For example: MyEmail@Gmail.com
  • Email Server Name: [Get this from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)] - This is the outgoing POP3 mail server provided by your ISP. For example: mail.servicesoftware.com
  • Mail Server Port: [Get this from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)] - This is the port number used by the mail server. For example: 25 or 587.
  • Mail Server Timeout: Use the default value of 30.
  • Authenticate Email Server: Check this box. When checked, the entries for Mail Account Name and Mail Password are available.
  • Mail Account Name: [Get this from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)] - This is the USER NAME used to access your email account. Usually it's your email address.
  • Mail Password: [Get this from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)] - This is the PASSWORD used to access your email account. Type carefully, using upper and lower case entries as appropriate for each character.
  • Export tips to a file (USER.MDB): Zip File After Export: Make certain that this checkbox is not checked.

When the above entries are made, then click the SEND EMAIL button.

What could go wrong?

Mail errors in WinSTIPS are almost always related to one of two issues:

  1. Firewall and Spyware software
  2. Incorrect entries

In the first case, it’s very common for Windows Firewall to consider email activity as a virus, and you may need to adjust Windows Firewall or your virus protection programs to allow WinSTIPS to perform such activity. As a test, please do this ...

  1. Disable Windows Firewall and any other Virus software that you are using.
  2. Reboot
  3. Confirm that Windows Firewall and any other Virus software remain disabled.
  4. Try sending Tips via email again.

In the second case, only your ISP can inform you of the correct settings to access the outbound email server that your ISP provides.

Does Send Tips via WinSTIPS work with all email providers?

Send Tips via WinSTIPS does not work with all email providers.

  1. Does not work if a secure connection (SSL) is required to access the outgoing email server.

If this option does not work for you then either use Option # 2: Export Tips or contact us for further support.

Option # 2: Export Tips and send via Email Attachment.

From the WinSTIPS main menu, choose the menu option for Tools and then Export / Email Tips. This opens the WinSTIPS Export form, shown below.

You are interested in the section named: Export tips to a file (USER.MDB).

  • Export tips to a file (USER.MDB): Zip File After Export: Make certain that this checkbox is checked.

When the above entry is made, then click the EXPORT button.

WinSTIPS should report how many tips were exported to a file and it will report the location of the file on your hard disk drive. The name of the file that is exported is USER.ZIP.

By design, WinSTIPS exports every tip you have entered every time you export tips.

Using your email program, send the USER.ZIP file by email as an attachment to Tips@ServiceSoftware.com
